Ovoid Dichotomies: Light and Water Energy Museum
Located on Memorial Drive between 3rd St. West and Centre Street, the site is situated at the base of the Crescent heights escarpment. A conceptual design for a Museum of Energy, which has an educational focus, targeting secondary and post-secondary audiences, is derived from a three-part philosophy and a desire to express water and light energies. A balance of architecture/urban derivatives and nature, integration of architecture and site and the visualization of energy consumption for this three part philosophy.
The concept expresses water and light in its design. Water is expressed through the flowing forms and the use of water within the structure. Light energies are expressed through patterned cladding on the facade. The concept embodies the balance of the masculine and feminine in its balance of forms.
The building acts as a link between the escarpment and the river, re-connecting it across the urban derivatives that have severed the natural link. It also serves to balance its own presence within a natural environment situated within a larger urban context.
